Makerspace

At GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi, our K–12 Makerspace nurtures creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, and innovation through hands-on STEM learning experiences. Students in Kindergarten and Elementary School visit the Makerspace weekly to explore coding, robotics, engineering, and design thinking in an engaging and supportive environment.

As part of our American curriculum in Abu Dhabi, the Makerspace encourages innovation-led learning at GAA while helping students build the creativity, adaptability, and technology skills needed for the future.

Design Hub

The Design Hub at GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi is a dynamic, hands-on learning environment where creativity, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving come together. As the home of our Design programme, the space allows students to engage fully in the design thinking process - from empathy and problem definition to ideation, prototyping, testing, and refinement.

Through collaborative and inquiry-based learning experiences, students explore design as a human-centred and purposeful practice, gaining a deeper understanding of how design shapes behaviours, influences decision-making, and impacts everyday life.

Equipped with a wide range of materials, digital technologies, machinery, and specialist tools, the Design Hub enables students to model, prototype, and create using textiles, plastics, wood, and other resistant materials. Students also develop digital and graphic communication skills that help them visualise, present, and evaluate ideas effectively.

As part of GAA’s innovation-focused learning approach, students are encouraged to think creatively, solve problems thoughtfully, and apply their learning in meaningful ways. Safety, professionalism, and precision are embedded throughout the Design Hub experience, reflecting real-world design and manufacturing practices.

Above all, the Design Hub empowers students to see design not simply as a subject, but as an essential part of how we understand, shape, and improve the world around us.
