Welcome message from the Head of School

Dr. Kathryn Miner

Dear Parents and Students,

At GEMS American Academy, our collective quest is to become a school well known throughout the international school community for its high quality college preparatory program and inviting school community.

Upon entering our school, one can immediately feel that it is built upon the strength of relationships among students, parents and highly-skilled teachers. This is thanks to the quality of our daily interactions and connections. Such a collaborative and understanding environment supports our greater goal to foster a Culture of Kindness throughout the school. Our high expectations for each student’s learning, matched with an environment of caring and support, can be best described as a student-centered learning approach.

To prepare our students for an ever-changing world, we must anticipate the skills that students will need in the future. As educators, we are charged with the task of anticipating and preparing our students for a new age in which exciting possibilities and questions exist for them. Our students must develop adaptable skills today to greet the jobs, opportunities, technologies and uncertainties that await them tomorrow.

To create successful adults, we enable students to:

  • Practice living within a Culture of Kindness
  • Develop flexibility of thought and ability in an ever-changing world context
  • Embrace differences and consider the ideas of others

We genuinely believe in our students and their abilities as learners, and we take great pride in watching each student thrive intellectually, physically, emotionally and ethically.

We are proud to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) and Diploma Program (DP) to students who will one day engage in and lead the global community.

Every new year holds exciting possibilities for teaching and learning. We welcome you to join us on the journey ahead!

Sincerely,

Kathryn Miner, D.Ed.
